Moofreemama is me! I love food, nature, our beautiful planet, hiking and looking after my health with a wholefood plant based diet. My website Moofreemama is here to help you feel great and start your plant based food journey. I’m crazy about good food and simple but delicious home cooking. I want to inspire you to get in the kitchen enjoying food preparation, cooking and eating well. I eat as many fruit and veg as I can each day and my motto is ‘beautiful food improves your mood’. A busy, happy, middle aged mother of one, now fit, healthy and full of energy for the big 50 this year. Three years ago I was tired, lacking energy, enthusiasm and had lost my sparkle. After weeks of investigating reasons for my fatigue (as I wouldn’t accept it was old age!) I concluded that my diet could be the cause. Since switching to a plant based diet my energy levels have soared, I’m sleeping less, buzzing with ideas and have my passion for learning, cooking and life in general back to where they were when I was 20. I live with my husband and my Hungarian Vizsla in the South West of England. My son is currently in his placement year at University, somewhere in China.
How it all began
Reading about women in their 20’s publicizing how they had so much energy after changing their awful diet for a nutritious one was indeed interesting, but they are half my age! I wanted to read about women (and men) in their 40’s 50’s 60’s and beyond having huge amounts of energy, and living healthy, interesting and active lives. There’s man over 100 years old who still runs marathons. A bodybuilder of 79 who looks 40 years younger. A lady in her 70’s full of life, traveling the world, sharing her (meat and dairy free) diet secrets.
I found that lots of people opted to follow a meat and dairy free diet by simply switching their unhealthy processed meat choices with the fake meat equivalent, but this had not improved their diet. They therefore felt no immediate improvement in their mood, weight or energy levels. I want to help you make healthy food choices and enable everyone to make tasty, easy nutritional food that everyone can enjoy.
The film Forks over Knives changed my diet forever, I highly recommend watching the film. It’s about nutrition, health and disease prevention.
Everyone can cook
I love cooking, I enjoy the magic of it all. Creating something beautiful and so physically different from it’s raw original state. Take a meringue for instance, you can use eggs whites to make a stiff white sugary cloud. I was a little dismayed at the thought of potentially never enjoying a meringue or pavlova ever again.. How wrong was I? You can make equally amazing meringue with Aquafava – which is the water from a can of beans or chick peas – amazing!
Initially I found it difficult to motivate myself to cook after switching to a meat and dairy free diet. All my favorite recipes had been meat and dairy focused. But with my knowledge of Asian food gained from cooks and chefs I met in South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand and Japan, I was able to create plant based recipes that I enjoyed more than the original meaty recipes.
There are several gadgets you will need to help you prepare delicious recipes, especially for nut preparation. I will be happy to share with you which gadgets I have and which ones I would like. I have only a few but they get used a lot. The one I use the most is the Vitamix 750 professional and although it is really expensive it will allow you to use 100% of your precious fruit and veg.
